Catalan legs, Mediterranean legs
–We don’t know whether Maillol was Catalan, from French Catalonia or from the South of France. But the legs of his sculptures are thick, Mediterranean legs, well set on the ground, not much given to flirtation: really Catalan legs as Juan Marsé rightly pointed out, at the suggestion of Jaime Gil de Biedma, it would seem.
–But do you like them?
–Yes, of course. I’ve always liked these ancient, classical, unfashionable kinds of legs. I venerate the classical and I’m not interested in fashions (clothes yes, a lot).
