If it’s not figurative, it’s no fun!
Eva: —Oscar, you can’t say this picture isn’t fun though, can you?
Oscar: —Fun? This picture’s really boring! I like the exhibition hall though, an old salt warehouse next to the sea, and very nicely refurbished too. Like all non-figurative art, erroneously called ‘abstract art’ when, after all, there is abstraction in all figurative art, this picture doesn’t interest me at all.
—But you can’t deny the colours are nice.
—I don’t deny it, but where’s the sex, death and memory? Where’s the mystery, that something that makes life interesting? It’s just art as decoration and I don’t want any more insignificant art in this selection of works that really thrill us.
