Jump!
Halsman had the excellent idea of getting famous people, like the divine Marilyn, to jump in the air, but the best, and most complex jump, was the one made by his friend Salvador Dalí next to a painting, an easel, a chair, a number of cats and a wave of water.
Halsman’s daugter’s account of how the picture was taken is a gem. The broad collaboration between the photographer and the painter has left us with some fantastic works, a demonstration of how the latter, with a reputation for anarchic irresponsibility, could collaborate with other artists, such as Buñuel, the architect Jean Michel Frank, and even with me.
