What would Antonio think?
Perhaps Antonio López has influenced me too much as a painter. When I’m working on a painting I always ask myself what he would think, how he would work it out. The last time I saw him he asked me what I was painting and I said some works that are frankly erotic, to which he replied, surprised, “They will never be sufficiently erotic”.
Having seen these latest works of his, his reply no longer seems that surprising. When they asked Dalí for the name of an erotic painter, he said, without a moment’s hesitation, “Velázquez”. Seen like that, Antoñito always has been too.
