Christina’s World
In the middle of the 1950s Wyeth presented his impressive painting, Christina’s World, at a Hispano-American Art Biennial. Of course, in the middle of the dictatorship of so-called abstraction, the painting passed by with neither disapproval nor fanfare. It must have taken absolute ingenuousness, complete misinformation about the world of contemporary art, or great conviction in the value of one’s own art to persist in such an unfashionable way.
Wyeth was always a painter who liked people but, as we know, there are some missionaries who think people need educating.
