The magic of the non-parallel

The delightful Temple of Athena Nike, seen from the Propylaea. On my last visit, in 2003, it didn’t exist. They have rebuilt it from top to bottom, as they should do with all ruins. We don’t know if its magic inclination—it isn’t parallel to anything around it—is the result of a refined sense of perspective, or if it was determined by the site itself.
