All the appeal of the work of this, the most architectural of couturiers, or the most couturier of architects, is based on playing with volumes. The excellent exhibition at the V&A was rounded off with one of the master’s structured skirts, which visitors could endorse. The ecstatic Japanese girls taking photographs of themselves in front of the series of mirrors was a sight to behold.
