Eiffel made them possible
We know that Eiffel didn’t draw or calculate the admirable engineering works he left scattered around the world. But he planned them and made them possible. Most likely I would have been one of the illustrious signatories to the petition against keeping the structure after the Universal Exposition of 1889. At that time it would have seemed less than respectful to its Parisian surroundings.
The tower, which was so rightly kept and is still with us, is astonishing, but the publication about it with all the construction and decorative plans that made it possible is overwhelming.
